Say What?

Wednesday, April 28, 2010 | Powell Pumas Tale

Yogi Berra was an all-star catcher for the New York Yankees for 10-some odd years, and played in more World Series than anybody. He was very outspoken, but it was often his speaking that got him in the news and it is his speaking that he's remembered for today. His quotes may not make sense at first, but if you think about it, they simply do. And because this is a school blog, I'm going to try to connect his crazy wording to kids everyday lives.

"I didn't really say everything I said."
Huh? What is that supposed to mean? Well, in school, their are going to be times you make mistakes. Or do something embarrasing. If your going to get in trouble, you'd better fess up. But if you're with your friends, you didn't really do whatever they said you did. Or at least that's what you tell them. They may understand, or, with a little luck, be so confused that they just drop the subject all together.

"You can't think and hit at the same time."
I feel this is definitaly true in baseball; you do a lot in batting practice and train, learning the perfect way to hit. But when you step up to the plate in a game, you have to just let loose. If you've practiced enough, it will come naturally. In school, a similar thinking applies. If you're taking your science final, and you've studied for weeks in preparation, and the last multiple choice question is giving you fits, go with your gut. Don't overthink it. Somewhere in the back of your brain you'll remember to cock your hands back, or that that last bit of information on anatomy. As long as you've thought it through, just trust yourself. You'll probably get it right.

"No one goes there anymore. It's too crowded."
Sometimes you can't follow the crowd. If everyones doing something, maybe it's better your not there. And you'll be surprised by how many of your friends actually aren't there that you could hang with.
"This will be the last time I type something until I do it again" Well, duh!
