School Cliques!(:

| Powell Pumas Tale

vjrebfgubrovgurhgurgho. That is what I I think of cliques! Cliques just make people feel left out! The more cliques there are the more people try to fit in. They try to be something they are not, which is never good! No matter what group you want to be in, you should just be yourself and they will like you for who you really are, not who your trying to be. Cliques cause many people pain and heartbreak!:(
Its never fun!!(: so if you are ever in this position try to help the best you can!!(:

Say What?

Wednesday, April 28, 2010 | Powell Pumas Tale

Yogi Berra was an all-star catcher for the New York Yankees for 10-some odd years, and played in more World Series than anybody. He was very outspoken, but it was often his speaking that got him in the news and it is his speaking that he's remembered for today. His quotes may not make sense at first, but if you think about it, they simply do. And because this is a school blog, I'm going to try to connect his crazy wording to kids everyday lives.

"I didn't really say everything I said."
Huh? What is that supposed to mean? Well, in school, their are going to be times you make mistakes. Or do something embarrasing. If your going to get in trouble, you'd better fess up. But if you're with your friends, you didn't really do whatever they said you did. Or at least that's what you tell them. They may understand, or, with a little luck, be so confused that they just drop the subject all together.

"You can't think and hit at the same time."
I feel this is definitaly true in baseball; you do a lot in batting practice and train, learning the perfect way to hit. But when you step up to the plate in a game, you have to just let loose. If you've practiced enough, it will come naturally. In school, a similar thinking applies. If you're taking your science final, and you've studied for weeks in preparation, and the last multiple choice question is giving you fits, go with your gut. Don't overthink it. Somewhere in the back of your brain you'll remember to cock your hands back, or that that last bit of information on anatomy. As long as you've thought it through, just trust yourself. You'll probably get it right.

"No one goes there anymore. It's too crowded."
Sometimes you can't follow the crowd. If everyones doing something, maybe it's better your not there. And you'll be surprised by how many of your friends actually aren't there that you could hang with.
"This will be the last time I type something until I do it again" Well, duh!

Life......(:

| Powell Pumas Tale

Many people feel as if they can explain their life, or exactly what your going through with simple quotes. But in all reality, though quotes may explain things, you have to change it, and live your life how YOU want to. Life....it is jsut a word, because you have to give it a meaning!!(: Your life is a very complex thing. It consits of many things. You have to make choices, some can be good, some can be bad. But no matter what you chose you are still living your life to its fullest!!(: Even though you cant go by quotes, some i think give good lessons that you should live by!!(:

Live your life crazy and love every second of it.....(:

When theres something you really want, fight for it dont give it up no matter how hopless it seems. And when you've los t hope, ask yourself if you're gonna wish you gave it just one more shot. becuase the best things in life don't come free.....(:

The best things in life are unseen...thats why we close our eyes when we kiss, cry and dream....(:

Remember when...friends didn't lie to you; &&the worst thing anyone ever called you was a meanie. Remember when you were judged on how nice you were; && how you only wanted to hear "i love you.." from your mom? Well...things change.
Because now...Friends barely tell yuo the truth;Girls will call you a ton of things that will make you want to break down&cry. Now you're judged on how expensive your clothes are, &&you would give up every single time your mom told you she loved you just to hear him say it once...(:

I believe these are good ones that explain things that young girls go through!!(; But you cant depend ont them, you have to paint your own canvas with as much paint as you can.....

NFL Draft

Friday, April 23, 2010 | Powell Pumas Tale

And with the 25th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos selct Tim Tebow from the University of Florida! Watching this on ESPN from my basement, I was estatic as I heard Coach McDaniels had traded up to select in my eyes on of the top 3 best quarterbacks in this years draft class! Tim Tebow, a leader in the locker room and on the field at Florida, brings an intensity to the Denver organization that will hopefully turn a mediocre team into a Super Bowl contender. The Broncos also picked Demaryius Thomas‎, a wide receiver from Georgia Tech with the 22nd pick.
Many fans have doubted Tebow's chances at being succesful in the NFL. His awkward throwing motion and spread offense he played at Florida will give him some trouble transitioning to the NFL. Many analysts on ESPN were very negative about the Broncos pick. But Jon Gruden, the former Buccaneers coach who led them to the Super Bowl, says he likes the pick. He believes Tebow will succeed under coach Josh McDaniels. About his throwing motion, he says, "Both Aaron Rodgers and Philip Rivers were critiqued for their throwing motion. They fell way back in the draft, but have gone on to do great in the NFL. I think Tebow will follow a similar path."
The Broncos have now replaced two starts McDaniels sent packing out of town; Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall. Now, with the 22nd and 25th picks in the draft, they've replaced those two. Coach Josh has confused a lot of people in rebuilding this franchise. But if he knows what he's doing, the Broncos could be a contenter as early as this year.

Extra Draft notes: Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford went #1 to the St. Louis Rams, and D-Lineman Ndamukong Suh of Nebraska went #2 to the Detroit Lions. 3 of the first 4 picks were from Oklahoma, with Bradford and Gerald McCoy and Trent Williams going 3 and 4. Dez Bryant, WR from Oklahoma St went to the Cowboys. Jimmy Clausen (QB Notre Dame) and Colt McCoy (QB Texas) didn't go to any team in the first round.

Friendships.....(:

| Powell Pumas Tale

During middle school, there are many issues you can have with your friends. But part of being in a strong friendship is going through tough times so the good times come easy!(: Friends can come and go, but when you find one that isn't worth giving up, you better hold on tight! At this point we are are still young and we are very "innocent" and dont really know what is right and wrong! When you and your friends fight, you just have to let both of you blow off some steam! but if you guys are truly great friends, you wont let anything come between you!(: Just remember friendship is an amazing thing, and you should never let something small come between you if you truly are best friends! Heres some quotes that i feel can represent friendship like no other!(:
a friend is someone who knows the song in youe heart and can sing it back to you when you forget the words(:,......Friendship is like peeing your pants, everyone can see it, but only you can feel it........(: Everyone fights, and bad things happen but with your friends by your side your unbeatable!(:

What clubs are we missing?

| Powell Pumas Tale

Powell offers plenty of amazing clubs for its students to take part in. But some students feel they are being left out because their sport isn't included. The sports offered include track, wrestling (for boys), basketball, and volleyball (for girls). While these are great sports for the students interested, some feel their should be more.
Many of my friends play soccer, baseball, or football or other sports that Powell doesn't offer as a club. Two students recently told me they wished we had soccer at Powell. After all, on the field down by the track we have soccer goals in the ground! Plus we have two backstops for baseball that are only used in P.E. I understand that money is tight and some teachers just can't coach any sport period. They have a life outside of school. But some students wish that we could support a couple extra sports teams.

Relationships......(:

Thursday, April 22, 2010 | Powell Pumas Tale

At Powell there are many stages of relationships. There are the relationships where you get asked out, and within a day or two they break up with you for someone else. There are relationship where they last for about a week or so and then the guy/girl tries to get to serious to fast, and you end up breaking up. There are also relationships where they last for very long and you grow so close, but one little thing happens and you break up. There are also the most common relationships where you start dating and you talk all the time, and the guy/girl starts to drift until it ends in heartbreak. At this point we are only in middle school and if you try to make something last no matter what you do, its bound to end up in heartbreak. We went around and asked our fellow students what they think about relationships and we got the answers as follows:
Grace M., 8th grade said "Relationships aren't worth my time...."
Josh S., 8th grade said " Relationships are stupid."
Ryan L., 8th grade " Im fine with relationships...."
Leanna K., 8th grade said "I'm fine with relationships until they get ridiculous and you get pushed out of someones life completly because they are in a relationship with someone else....."

Earth Day!

| Powell Pumas Tale

Today is Earth Day! Around our school people are (or were supposed to) wear green to honor our Earth! We should take this day to be a little more-environmentally friendly. Don't stand in the shower for too long, don't let water run when you don't need it, etc. And of course, recycle! Everyone can do their part, and help save our failing ozone and environment. If everyone recycled an extra sheet of paper today, we could save hundreds of trees!
If you're afraid your not doing anything to save our planet, don't worry! You may be doing something without even knowing it. If you ride your bike to school or walk, your saving our atmosphere by not riding in a car. If you ride a bus or carpool, you help because not everyone is driving their own seperate car giving off fumes. Saving our planet may be as simple as turning off the water when you brush your teeth. If we start this Earth Day, then we can make our planet a better place to live for generations to come.

CODE AND CORE what's the difference?!?!?!

Friday, April 16, 2010 | Powell Pumas Tale

This semester our school introduced CORE. Which stands for Community-Minded, Own it, Respect, and Eager to learn. This has been a really cool program that has gone through our school. It really helps us be a good school and strive to be better. I think this is a really good concept and very original. Yet its not so original for Powell. Last Monday i was at Newton for a Powell Puma volleyball game and couldn't help noticing some posters on the wall. These posters stated a four letter word. NO it wasn't CORE but it was CODE. In Newton CODE stands for Caring, Open-Minded, Discipline, and Engaged. Is it something that just runs in the district? I thought that too until I asked Kelly T. and Bridget D. former students of Newton. They said it was introduced to them last year at the end of sixth grade. They also said they handed out "CODE cards" and put on a play to demonstrate the meaning of CODE. This sounds really similar to what Powell did. They put on a play with CORE man and Dr.Destructo it was a very entertaining. But we got introduced to this idea in the beginning of the second semester of this year. Did we copy Newton? Maybe there trying to get this kind of thing started in the littleton district but i know for sure that Newton had this idea before us. So again whats the difference between CODE and CORE? I don't know that's what we will have to figure out. Even though we don't know who had this idea first it is a great concept to have in our everyday curriculum at Powell Middle School! Hopefully this concept is helping both schools become better schools and helping this students become excited to exceed in school. So no matter what school copied what school lets just end this year with a great and positive attitude!

CODE and CORE

| Powell Pumas Tale

This semester we introduced CORE to our school. C- Community-minded O-Own It R-Respect E-Eager to learn! At Newton they have CODE. C- Caring O-Open Minded D-Discipline E-Engaged. These two words and the meanings of their letters help the Powell and Newton students stay on task and be a better school. But where did we get these from? Well, at Powell we were introduced to CORE at the beginning of the 2ND semester this year. Meredith and I asked Kelly T. and Bridget D. when they were introduced to CODE. They went to Newton last year and half of this year, they mentioned that CODE became part of Newton last year at the end of the year. At Newton they put on a play to represent what CODE looks like. When Powell brought CORE to us, they also put on a play with Core Man and Dr. Destrocto. Did we copy Newton? Well, maybe the two schools talked and they could be trying to get it around the district to help all of our schools to become better schools all around. We also have CORE cards that the teaches give out when we represent any part of CORE. At Newton they also have CODE cards that teachers give out when a student represents CODE. Now the question is, who came up with this idea first?

Detention Or Not?

| Powell Pumas Tale

Hey Powell Pumas, I want to talk to you about detentions. Recently, we have stopped having detentions and started using CORE reflection sheets. What do YOU think is better? Would you rather stay after school and copy a bunch of rules about the school, even though it has nothing to do with what you did? Or, would you rather be pulled out of class and answer questions that will make you think about what you did to get yourself in trouble. Even though some teachers will make you stay after school and complete them. It just seems like they didn't get rid of detentions, they just changed their name. Well tell me what you think detentions, or no detentions?

Drama

| Powell Pumas Tale

Drama is what makes the school go around. Every girl does it once in there life. It usually starts from something that someone hears and then tells everyone and builds from there. No one likes it especially if its about you!!! The question is though what do u girls like to start drama about? Mostly its that simple word everyone knows and if you don't know what I'm talking about it BOYS!!!! Its just about who they break up with or they flirt with you or there just a player. Guys don't know it but there the start to every girls drama. Sounds crazy but i bet you anything the boy did something to cause it. If there was no drama in the world this would be a pretty boring life! To me seeing drama is like an action movie with girls fighting like tigers. It pretty funny sometimes but not when it ends in physical contact. One quote that I'm thinking of right now is. " Oooo Drama lets get popcorn!!!" Yes this is a real quote and I'm not lying. Just i wish people would realize what there doing to other people when they start this drama. Drama can really hurt some people and make them feel bad about themselves. Everyone, lets just not cause drama and be good people like i know you guys can be!!! :)

Girls Drama!

| Powell Pumas Tale

Drama in middle school for girls is no fun! Normally drama starts from a rumor or just two people getting in a fight. Some people love drama and try to start it and keep it going. Others try to stay as far away from it and try to end it when it starts. The best thing to do is ignore all the rumors and don't get involved with drama. Some popular topics that drama comes from is boys. Girls get jealous VERY easily and if one girl likes a boy and another girl goes out with him, it's just downhill from there! It makes it worse when it's your friend that likes the boy that you are going out with. Although, drama can make life more interesting. What would life be like without drama? I think it would be boring, but extremely calm. Drama is just part of life and you go through it more than once. I'm not saying I like drama, but I don't hate it unless it is going to far. Girls take it really seriously, and it can lead to bad things. The girls that start it have no idea what goes on in the other girls life and they don't know how bad it can hurt them. But as much as you can, try to solve drama and don't make it any worse than it already is. Be nice to everyone but you don't HAVE to be friends with them all, just be nice(:

What Do Guys Think of Girls?

Tuesday, April 13, 2010 | Powell Pumas Tale

Have you ever wondered about what guys like or see in girls? Well, here are some answers to your questions. We interviewed a couple of seventh grade guys and asked them what do you think about girls? Will D. replied, "When I think of girls I think they are goofballs, too serious, and are really overly dramatic about stuff.." When we asked Robert D. about the problem and commented, "Girls usually don't like to party, and always try to be legit." So, obviously we have two very different sides of the situation. So we asked them, what do you see in girls? Will D. said, "I look into their personality, also a girl that can party, and somenone thats laid back." Robert D. repiled, "I like girls that aren't strongwilled, and if they're organized" So there you have it, the answers to the worlds toughest qeuestions.

Sports!:D

| Powell Pumas Tale

There are many sports to choose from. You can play sports and you can watch them. Most people have their special sport that they are great at or that they love to watch! We talked to a few people at our school to ask them what their favorite sports are. Rachel L. said that she does gymnastics and soccer! She likes those two sports because they are very fun and a good way to get your energy out. She does gymnastics at Peak Athletics and soccer for Littleton. We also talked to Christian A. who is a sixth grader at our school. His favorite sports are football and lacrosse. He likes those sports because it is fun to tackle people and hit them with sticks. Christian plays for the panthers. Another boy we talked to was Alex T. His favorite sports are hockey and baseball because they are fun and exciting! Alex plays for the panthers in baseball and Junior Eagles for hockey. Sports are very fun to play and most people are on a team. I love competitive swimming and track! Those are my two favorite sports in my opinion. There are so many sports out in the world!! What are your favorite sports!?(:

He likes to play these sports because there fun and exhilarating. He plays on Panthers for both sports and seems to have a great time. Also Robin D. is fascinated with volleyball. She has so much fun playing this sport and meets a lot of new people. Ireland C. has one sport that is very important to her, it is swimming. She does this sport because it's just FUN! She swims for Forest Park and has had a great time with that team. As you can see everyone has there own interpretation of there favorite sport. In my opinion I love playing club volleyball and soccer. These sports are so much fun and I love experiencing the competition of both these sports. What Girls Think of Boys(:

Monday, April 12, 2010 | Powell Pumas Tale

Well...boys. They can be nice. Or mean. There is a lot to say actually. Meredith and I interveiwed a few sixth grade girls at our school to ask their opinion on boys and what they look for in a guy. A few things they said about boys is that they are annoying, they judge girls by looks and not personality, most are players, they are really immature, and they are hard to figure out. Now, there are still some good things about guys. They can be sweet sometimes, and some very few though, are cute. These girls also told us what they look for in a guy. Some of the I am pretty sure may not happen. But they said: hot, nice, honest, funny, and sensitive. As most of us girls know, most guys are NEVER sensitive. They always act tough and they are not always the most honest people. Boys can also be bad and they sometimes lead you on. Another thing boys do is, they are nice to you and then when they are with their little friends they act like a jerk. Always wait for the right boy to come. Make sure they treat you right and how you want them to and make sure they actually care about you and they are not leading you on! Girls, what do you think of boys?;)

What do I think of a boy?!?!?!?

| Powell Pumas Tale

What do I think of boys? At first I'm speechless but then I know there is more than enough to say about them. When I hear someone say the B word the first thing that's pops into my head is hard to figure out, lazy, immature, cute, annoying, and rude. Guys are the most complicated thing in the world, maybe even more complicated then that math pretest about a whole new subject and you have no idea what it means. Yes, i have had my experiences with guys and trust they didn't end well. All i would like to see in a guy is one who's really cute, honest, funny, super sweet, and sensitive. They tell you like you then nothing! Nothing at all, not even that six letter sentence you've been wanting to hear since you first saw them. This six letter sentence happens to be Will You Go Out With Me? Yep, but they never say it. The worse though is when they lead you on. It's the worse. Although boys can have all these bad things they can also have good things. They can be really sweet, spoil you, and just treat you right. The things they say to you just make you want to melt like an ice cream cone on a hot summer day! Boys make the world spin around just like everyone says, "Cant live with them, cant live without them!"

School Uniforms for Powell

Friday, April 9, 2010 | Powell Pumas Tale

I wake up early in the morning. I start to get ready for school when i notice i have nothing ot wear. As a girl, it is very important to have a good outfit to wear to school. Plus, our school has a kind of strict dress code. Because of that we can only wear shorts that are below our fingertips and no tank tops. It is very hard in the fall and spring to pick out an outfit for school. Therefore, it takes very long to pick out an outfit as a girl! One easy solution that nobody wants is school uniforms! Even though that would cover every outfit for the school week, and it would be a lot easier to get ready, no one wants school uniforms. They would be very uncomfortable. Many girls and even guys want to look good and have their own style and show it off at school. And i think it would be okay to wear shorts shorter than your fingertips as long as your not showing anything, same with tank tops. I just think we should be able to wear shorter shorts than shorts as long as guys!

SUMMER, for boys

Tuesday, April 6, 2010 | Powell Pumas Tale

Summer rules, from the birds to the bugs to the flowing stream......NO! Summer is about hanging out with friends not girlish birds or flowing streams. Here at Powell I love to go to the creek behind the school with some floss, ham, and a stick. Bet you don't know what I'm doing... I'm catching crawdads. Crawdads are small lobster-like animals that vary in color and in size. They are blue, black, red, and more and range from 1-10 inches. Although it is fun catching them it is more fun doing it with friends. Friends are the key balance of summer they help you every step along the summer road. Without them summer would be bland unless you go traveling(I get to go to Costa Rica this summer, Ha Ha Ha).

Summer is also a time for you to lose everything you learned that year, so to help the summer grade slump use flash cards or those little travel questions at least once a week to keep you smart. No matter what you should have fun during summer and don't let it slip by playing video games or watching TV all day. This will be my last blog, but look for me elsewhere on the paper. Until later...

Summer... for girls. :DDDDD

| Powell Pumas Tale

SUMMER!!! It's almost here! Only seven more weeks left. Seven more weeks till no school, till endless heat(:, till cute shorts, till friends, till NO STRESS! Also... there is seven more weeks to get your grade up ;D Ha, yeah summer and school put in the same sentence doesn't sound so great, huh? We don't have summer school here at Powell. But if your grades aren't looking that great, they do hold you back. Imagine being a step behind all your fellow classmates. Thaaaaaat would be tough. So before the end of the school year bump your grades up! They give us so many opportunities to have decent grades, take advantage of them! That's not easy to say, or do. Push yourself. I promise it will help you in the later on. Start out being organized. Use a planner, it really does help you to never forget about assignments. Next step, go in for lunch to classes that you have been struggling in, you will get a better understanding of the lesson if the teacher is directly saying it to you. Now, actually DO your homework. They wouldn't give you homework if they thought it wouldn't help you in the long run, common sense. If you flunk a test, ask to re-do it. Getting a D is better than an F, am I right? Last step, relax. If you actually do try doing all of the above, you would have improved in that certain class. By the way, this isn't coming from a A student. I struggle too. But I have been doing some of that advice and I have improved. Take my word, it really works.
Good luck!(:
Just seven more weeks.

Procrastination for ladies.

| Powell Pumas Tale

AHH,PROCRASTINATION. Some thing people like me always run into. It is probably the worst habit to have. I'm in seventh grade and still struggle with it, and we are almost done with the year! Most the time we just try and avoid our homework, or cleaning our room, or writing a blog. <- I just realized I was trying to avoid that. But when reality strikes you notice that the things you have been ignoring, are STILL there. You STILL have to do it, but this time it's under pressure and you might have other stuff to add on to it which makes the whole situation difficult. So try and stop this haunting habit now. I'm sure it will get a whole lot worse as an adult if you don't. Even if you don't fall under the category of a "procrastinator," it is still good to be aware of getting yourself organized and on top of it before it you DO fall under that category.
SO! Don't let things drag you back, get your stuff done so you are stress-free and happy(: Have a nice day!

Procrastination... for boys

| Powell Pumas Tale

Procrastination is a serious problem. I do it and I know you do. Don't try to hide it, every boy procrastinates at some point in their life. It may be on homework, school work, chores, or almost anything else you can "do". The only way I can help you with it is to tell you to not do it. In the end of it all it is your decision on what you want to do. But my suggestion is to do the work and get it over with, you will take more time procrastinating than you will doing the work. I procrastinate a lot and regret every minute of it later. I can tell you to do your work but you don't have to. You do not have to listen to me (but you should), no matter what it is your decision.

Procrastination is a sensitive issue for school kids and even adults that can be helped if you try harder and harder to beat it and get your work done. There will be one more blog coming so I can make my deadline. So until I finish the next one...

Middle school drama... for boys?

Friday, April 2, 2010 | Powell Pumas Tale

Drama... well, not really my subject considering I'm a boy.

Boys aren't really big on drama, we have little bits here and there but nothing like girls. The only drama we have are little insults or breakups but we are not affected by gossip or just drama itself. That is why the term drama queen is QUEEN not KING, you never hear anybody saying "oh, he is such a drama king." It just doesn't work you cant make boys the center of drama, it upsets the natural balance of life. If you do the world might explode (now that would be DRAMATIC). Yeah drama is not big with boys you can try and try again but boys are not affected, and we just think the whole thing is stupid.

I have no idea why I am writing about something i know nothing about so I should probably stop before i make myself look stupid. So, until next time...

MIddle School drama for girls.

| Powell Pumas Tale

One of the worst things ever. You wouldn't imagine how the slightest things could hurt you or one of your very closest friends. It all starts when you gossip. It's easy to say, "don't gossip." In reality it is not easy to stop. Everyone does it, even guys believe it or not. That one spine tingling, intriguing word that has every attached in one breath, could ruin a reputation or a friendship. You never think about it, until it happens. Keep these things in mind before you could destroy what you have. If some one is trying to bash some one that you haven't been getting along with, the human reaction would be to bash that one person with that other person. That sounds a little confusing when it's written all out, but it is like a natural habit most people do daily. To get you out of that situation, you should tell them you're not in a mood to talk about them, or be the bigger person and tell them that gossiping won't make anything better. Usually people are shut down and have nothing to say once you confront them about that. One of the things you should be most aware of out of everything is self control. Only YOU can stop your self to pass on that tiny secret, or in other words that big fat lie. The only thing that will help you have self control on this difficult subject is imagining everything without a friend, and without a good reputation. I chose this subject because i thought it would be good for today, tomorrow, and a couple years from now. I have said all that I needed too, now it's up to you to make the difference.
