Behind the Scenes
Friday, February 5, 2010 | Powell Pumas Tale
I was sitting at the computer brainstorming idea, or stalling-whatever you want to call it- when I realized that no one ever writes about what goes on behind the scenes. No one has ever captured how hectic it is at the last minute or what it's like to be working together.
The process begins with brainstorming ideas to write articles about. Each reporter has to think about a topic to write about for an article, editorial, quick news, and after school activity. Then they're assigned a photographer to follow them around and take picture of topics. The photographer then posts the pictures to the wiki and waits around for the reporter or interviewer to finish.
Things get interesting on the last day when everyone realizes how far behind they are. Well, not everyone is far behind but five days is a short time to write four articles. The photographers sit there, waiting for the editor to finish editing and publish all the stories. Once it's sent to them, then it's a race to post it to the right page on the wiki. The video team starts scrambling to post their video because it takes so long to download. The Editor in Chief wanders around making sure everything is going smoothly or running around if things aren't. The salespeople and social media directors sit there smugly, glad that they finished.
And that is how the Puma's Tale works.
